    Terms of Service

    Last updated: March 29, 2026

    1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Civix ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, you may not use the Platform. Continued use of the Platform after any modifications to these Terms constitutes your acceptance of such changes.

    2. Description of Service

Civix is a non-partisan civic transparency platform that aggregates publicly available government data including, but not limited to, congressional voting records, FEC campaign finance filings, U.S. Treasury fiscal data, congressional stock trading disclosures, lobbying and FARA registrations, and official legislative text. The Platform also provides push notifications via third-party services, progressive web app (PWA) functionality for mobile installation, optional identity verification through government-issued ID submission, direct messaging between constituents and representatives with optional campaign contribution facilitation, and community discussion features including comments and voting. Certain features use artificial intelligence to generate summaries, analyses, and calculated metrics from this data.

    3. AI-Generated Content

Certain features of the Platform use artificial intelligence models to generate summaries, analyses, and scores. These include but are not limited to: legislation plain-English summaries, fiscal impact assessments, political committee financial analyses, lobbying firm analyses, and stock trading suspicion scores. AI-generated content is clearly labeled where it appears. You acknowledge that:

    • AI outputs are algorithmic interpretations that may contain errors, hallucinations, or biases.
    • AI-generated content does not constitute legal, financial, investment, or political advice.
    • You should independently verify any AI-generated information before relying on it.
    • Civix is not liable for any decisions made based on AI-generated content.

    4. Data Accuracy Disclaimer

ALL DATA PRESENTED ON THIS PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. While we strive for accuracy, data is sourced from public government databases, third-party APIs, and AI-generated summaries. You acknowledge and agree that:

    • Data may be incomplete, outdated, or contain errors due to source limitations.
    • AI-generated summaries, ideology scores, fiscal impact assessments, suspicion scores, and other calculated metrics are algorithmic interpretations and may not perfectly reflect reality.
    • Legislation summaries are simplified interpretations of complex legal text and should not be treated as legal advice.
    • Campaign finance and donor data is sourced from FEC filings and may have reporting delays or inaccuracies.
    • Stock trading data and suspicion scores are calculated estimates and do not constitute evidence of wrongdoing.
    • You are solely responsible for independently verifying any information before relying on it for any purpose.

    5. User Conduct

    You agree not to:

    • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
    • Impersonate any person or entity, including public officials.
    • Submit false identity verification documents.
    • Harass, threaten, or abuse other users or public officials through the messaging system.
    • Attempt to manipulate polls, approval ratings, or other voting mechanisms through automated means or multiple accounts.
    • Scrape, data-mine, or systematically extract data from the Platform without written consent.
    • Interfere with or disrupt the Platform's infrastructure or security.

    6. User Accounts

You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account. You may optionally submit a government-issued photo ID for identity verification; submitted documents are stored securely and used solely for verification purposes. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

    7. User-Generated Content

You retain ownership of content you submit (comments, citizen-proposed legislation, poll responses, messages). By submitting content, you grant Civix a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display and distribute that content on the Platform. We reserve the right to remove content that violates these Terms.

    8. Campaign Contributions

The Platform facilitates voluntary campaign contributions from citizens to verified public servants through the direct messaging system. Civix acts solely as a technology facilitator and does not receive, hold, or manage campaign funds. All contributions are subject to Federal Election Commission (FEC) regulations. You are solely responsible for ensuring your contributions comply with applicable campaign finance laws, including contribution limits. Civix is not a political committee and does not endorse any candidate or official.

    9. Third-Party Services

The Platform uses third-party services including but not limited to: Supabase (authentication and database hosting), Vercel (web hosting and analytics), OneSignal (push notifications), and AI model providers (content generation). These services have their own privacy policies and terms of service. By using the Platform, you acknowledge that certain data may be processed by these providers in accordance with their respective terms.

    10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CIVIX AND ITS OPERATORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM:
