1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. During onboarding, you may optionally provide: display name, date of birth, sex, party affiliation, marital status, occupation, income bracket, and education level.
Address Information
We require a verified U.S. street address to determine your state and congressional district. Your full address is stored securely and used solely for district matching. Geocoded latitude/longitude coordinates may also be stored.
Identity Verification
If you submit a government-issued ID for verification, the uploaded document image is stored securely and processed to confirm your identity. AI analysis may extract your name and address from the document.
Push Notification Data
If you enable push notifications, we collect a device identifier token through our notification provider (OneSignal) to deliver notifications. You can configure granular notification preferences including cross-posts, custom polls, campaign events, controversies, featured polls, direct messages, comment replies, and comment votes.
Usage & Analytics Data
We collect information about your interactions with the Platform, including pages visited, votes cast, polls answered, and features used. We use Vercel Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated usage metrics such as page views and performance data. This analytics data does not include personally identifiable information.
2. How We Use Your Information
- District Matching: Your address connects you to your congressional representatives.
- Demographic Polling: If you opt in, your demographic data is used in aggregate (never individually) to break down poll results for public servants.
- Direct Messaging: When messaging a representative, you choose which demographic fields to share on a per-conversation basis.
- AI Processing: Legislative text, committee financial data, and lobbying registrant data may be sent to AI model providers to generate summaries and analyses displayed on the Platform. No personally identifiable user data is included in AI processing requests.
- Platform Improvement: Usage data helps us improve features and fix issues.
- Account Security: Identity verification helps prevent fraud and duplicate accounts.
3. Information Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only in these limited circumstances:
- Aggregate Demographics: Poll results are shown in aggregate form. No individual voter's choices are ever disclosed.
- Direct Messages: Only the demographic fields you explicitly choose to share are visible to the recipient public servant.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
- Service Providers: We use Supabase for authentication and database hosting, Vercel for web hosting and analytics, OneSignal for push notification delivery, and third-party AI providers for content analysis. These providers process data in accordance with their own privacy policies and are bound by data processing agreements.
4. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), row-level security policies on all database tables, secure authentication with email verification, and encrypted storage for sensitive documents. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Your Rights
You may:
- Update or correct your personal information through your profile settings.
- Delete your account, which will remove your personal data from our active systems.
- Change your demographic sharing preferences at any time.
- Withdraw your vote on any poll or approval rating at any time.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data will be removed from active systems within 30 days. Aggregate, anonymized data (poll results, approval ratings) may be retained indefinitely.
7. Children's Privacy
The Platform is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will promptly delete their account and associated data.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance.
